SHELLY POINT VILLA
The dune setting of this fabulous thatch roofed luxury villa slopes down to a pristine empty beach on Stompneus Baai, one of the West Coasts best kept secrets.
The dune setting of this fabulous thatch roofed luxury villa slopes down to a pristine empty beach on Stompneus Baai, one of the West Coasts best kept secrets. Not only is it secluded, but tidal rock pools and large granite boulders in the shallows make it a perfect recreational beach for paddling and exploring the shore.
On the top level, the villa’s impossibly spacious open plan living, kitchen, dining, and pool courtyard all have awesome enveloping views across Stompneus and St Helena Bay and the mountains beyond. Sliding glass sea facing doors - whether open or closed - reveal miles of natural beauty and a panorama of ever changing silver-blue sea scenery including dolphins, whales, migrating birds and fishing boats from an elevated vantage point even though the villa is actually right on the beach.
Designed by Greg Truen of SAOTA (Stefan Antoni Olmesdahl Truen Architects), with interiors by Antoni Associates, this is a luxury escape that enhances the potential of a barefoot holiday lifestyle in a spectacular natural setting. Daily living takes place on the top level. Here, the kitchen, living and dining area and rim flow lap pool in a wind free courtyard, all occupy one huge space that redefines indoor outdoor living. This is where you’ll be chilling out on the sofas, cooking, soaking up the sun and fun round the pool, playing games, reading (falling asleep reading) or watching TV. The kitchen is fabulously kitted out. A SMEG range, granite prep counter tops, huge fridge/freezer, separate scullery with dishwasher and 12 seater rustic wooden refectory table make it a foodie’s pleasure to entertain family and friends.
The living area has an open wood burning fireplace which is spectacular and a feature in winter when evening temperatures dip. Winters’ balmy days are bliss but chilly nights call for cosiness so the entire house has under floor heating and downstairs, a playroom with media and DVD set up in which to cocoon and nest with your feet up on stretch sofas under snug throws. Interiors throughout the house are cool, contemporary, down to earth glam. Furnished in charcoal - the colour of mussel shells - and white linens with indigo blue accents, with warm wood and pale stone finishes, the look is all about a modern relaxed attitude. No fuss, but masses of style and ultimately, masses of comfort.
